Anyone can pull cable.
We hand you the evidence.

Data Cablers designs, installs and certifies the physical layer for corporate estates, data halls and national rollout programmes across London, Hertfordshire and the wider UK. Every link is tested. Every link is labelled. Every result is in your hands on the day we hand over — because an installation you cannot audit is a claim, not a standard.

The 2026 position

Two regulatory changes this year rewrote the brief. Most cabling contractors have not read either.

Structured cabling stopped being a low-risk trade the moment power started travelling down it and the moment the spectrum your wireless design depends on was re-cut. We track the instruments, we design to them, and we put the reference on the quotation so there is nothing to argue about at handover.

Instrument 01 · Published 15 April 2026

Power over Ethernet is now inside the Wiring Regulations

BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 introduces a dedicated Section 716 for Power over Ethernet, together with a new section on functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for information and communication technology equipment. The previous edition, BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 incorporating A3:2024, is withdrawn on 15 October 2026.

The consequence is direct. A PoE installation delivering up to 90 W per port under IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 is no longer purely a data question — bundle sizing, heat rise, conductor selection and earthing arrangements now sit within the scope of the national wiring standard. A data contractor without in-house electrical competence is now designing outside its own certification.

Data Cablers holds that competence inside the group. Our electrical division is NICEIC certified; PoE design, containment and bonding are delivered and signed off under one accountable contractor.

Instrument 02 · Statement 20 July 2026

Ofcom has opened the whole of 6 GHz — on conditions

Ofcom has adopted a hybrid-sharing framework for the upper 6 GHz band (6425–7125 MHz). Wi-Fi takes priority across 6425–6585 MHz; mobile takes priority across 6585–7125 MHz. Licence-exempt Low Power Indoor and Very Low Power operation is permitted, while higher-power and outdoor deployment must operate under Automated Frequency Coordination.

This is materially more spectrum for Wi-Fi 7 than the lower 6 GHz band alone offered — and it changes channel planning, access point density and, critically, the backhaul cabling underneath. Low Power Indoor limits mean range falls, access point counts rise, and the containment and cabling design rises with them.

Any contractor quoting a Wi-Fi 7 refresh in 2026 without a fresh predictive design and validation survey is quoting a number, not a network. We will say so before you sign.

The full standards register Sources: IET and BSI, Amendment 4:2026 to BS 7671:2018. Ofcom statement on expanding access to the 6 GHz band, July 2026. Positions stated as at August 2026.

Capability · Copper, fibre, wireless

We will tell you what you need. Not what you asked for.

Every contractor will quote whatever category you name. We price the correct one, evidence the difference in writing, and where the cheaper specification will serve the building for the next fifteen years we say so and record why. That position costs us margin on the day. It wins us the estate.

Conductor — annealed copper

Copper

Balanced twisted pair designed to BS EN 50173-1 and installed to BS EN 50174-2. Screened or unscreened, LSZH sheathed, CPR Euroclass selected against the building's fire strategy and recorded with its Declaration of Performance.

  • Cat5eClass D · 100 MHz
  • Cat6Class E · 250 MHz · 10G to 55 m
  • Cat6AClass EA · 500 MHz · 10G to 100 m
  • Cat7 / 7AClass F / FA · S/FTP · 600–1000 MHz
  • PoE802.3bt Type 3 & 4 · to 90 W

Straight answerCategory 7 is an ISO/IEC 11801 class. It is not recognised by ANSI/TIA-568 and it requires GG45 or TERA connectors to actually deliver Class F at the outlet. Nine times in ten Cat6A is the better commercial decision. We will show you the arithmetic before you commit, in writing.

Jacket — aqua OM3 / OM4 · yellow OS2

Fibre

Backbone and horizontal fibre where distance, bandwidth or electrical noise rules copper out. Fusion spliced, pre-terminated or field terminated to suit the programme, with Tier 1 loss and Tier 2 OTDR results issued as standard.

  • OM3Multimode · 10G to 300 m
  • OM4Multimode · 10G to 550 m
  • OM5Wideband · SWDM ready
  • OS2Singlemode · campus & external
  • TestingIEC 61280-4-1 & -4-2

Straight answerIf your backbone is OM1 or OM2 you are already capped and every switch refresh will be constrained by it. Pre-terminated trunk reduces a data hall installation to a fraction of the time on site, and on a live floor that is usually the entire argument.

Design — predictive, then validated

Wireless

Wi-Fi that was designed, not guessed. Predictive design against the drawings, validation survey against the built environment, and a report that evidences the coverage, capacity and roaming performance you paid for.

  • Wi-Fi 6802.11ax · 2.4 & 5 GHz
  • Wi-Fi 6ELower 6 GHz · LPI / VLP
  • Wi-Fi 7802.11be · MLO · 320 MHz
  • Upper 6 GHz6425–6585 MHz Wi-Fi priority
  • BackhaulCat6A minimum for 6E and 7

Straight answerThe July 2026 Ofcom decision expands the usable band but keeps indoor operation at Low Power Indoor limits without AFC. More spectrum does not mean fewer access points. Anyone telling you otherwise has not read the statement.

Why this matters commercially

Where your building falls within the higher-risk regime under the Building Safety Act 2022, this pack is produced in a form that hands straight into the golden thread of information — a legal duty since April 2024. Retrofitting that evidence after completion costs multiples of collecting it as you go.

Single-contractor delivery

The reason our programmes do not stall.

Most cabling delays are not cabling delays. They are containment not ready, fire stopping not signed off, a cabinet supply not energised, or a specialist system arriving from a fourth subcontractor with its own programme. Data Cablers sits inside a group that holds those disciplines directly, so the dependency chain is internal and the accountability is single.

Electrical

NICEIC-certified electrical contracting

Containment, tray and basket, fire stopping, cabinet supplies, sub-mains, distribution, EICR and remedial works. Delivered by the group's own electrical teams to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, on the same order and the same programme as the cabling.

Cabinets & power

Comms cabinets, UPS & power supplies

Wall-mounted and floor-standing comms cabinets supplied and installed, with the dedicated circuits, distribution, PDU and uninterruptible power supply to match. UPS topology classified to BS EN IEC 62040-3 and autonomy sized from the measured load.

Cabinets, UPS & power

Collaboration

Microsoft Teams Rooms & AV

Meeting rooms, boardrooms, digital signage and AV systems designed to the published AVIXA standards and installed on cabling, containment and power we put in ourselves — so the room is designed from the outlet outwards.

Teams Rooms & AV

Life safety & security

Fire, CCTV, door entry & warden call

Where the network carries life-safety and security systems, the group installs and maintains them too — so the cabling design, the containment and the end system are specified together rather than reconciled afterwards.

Energy

EV charging, solar PV & metering

Estate infrastructure programmes rarely stop at data. Where EV, PV or sub-metering forms part of the same building works, it is scoped, priced and delivered by the same group under one commercial relationship.

Why it matters

The interface risk sits with us

When containment, fire stopping, cabinets, power, cabling and AV sit on one order, a delay in any one of them is our problem to solve rather than yours to arbitrate. That is the whole commercial proposition, and it is why clients who meet us on a single job retain us for the estate.
